2 – Relationships

Now that we know the power of a system, we know that nodes affect other nodes when they have a relationship.

What does that have to with sustainability?

We all live together on Earth, which means the Earth has nodes like people, animals, plants, rocks, money, rules, and technology. All these nodes have special and unique relationships, which means money can affect plants, and plants can affect technology.

That is why we say sustainability is a wicked problem. This is also why there are so many sustainability goals.

Let’s think about one wicked problem: plastic is a very useful material, but it can also damage the environment and our health. So can we use plastic sustainably?

This problem relates to the following UN sustainability goals:

If plastic is so bad, let’s just ban plastic!

What would really happen if we banned plastic?
