Future Minds: National Science Week Resources for Teachers

Bring AI literacy to your classroom with the resources produced for National Science Week 2026

About this program

These resources were developed by the Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning (C3L), a research team exploring how people and systems learn and adapt in an AI-driven world. During National Science Week 2026, the Future Minds team delivered talks and workshops across South Australia, travelling over 1,000 km to reach schools and community audiences of all ages.

This page collects the content, activities, and formats from that program so any teacher can replicate them in their own classroom or school event.

Public Lecture: Introduction to AI

A one-hour interactive talk designed for people of all ages and backgrounds, covering the key debates shaping how we think about AI and showcasing the latest interdisciplinary research on this topic produced by researchers in South Australia.

Format: 60-minute interactive session, suitable for whole-school assemblies or community evenings.

Core topics covered:

  • Capabilities and limitations with AProf Negin Mirriahi: what AI can and can’t actually do

  • Privacy with Dr Michelle Perugini: what AI systems know, and how personal data is used

  • Bias and ethics with Dr Oscar Deho: how bias enters AI systems and why it matters

What’s Next?

Extend this to a hands-on experience
A hands-on workshop where participants use creativity, critical thinking, and empathy to design a chatbot that addresses a real learning need of their own, using our in-house, safe, no-code platform, Chatmate. We integrate it into a Design Thinking framework, and it can be adapted into a 1.5–4 hour activity for either students or teachers looking to improve their AI capabilities.

Join our community of practice
Want to build your leadership capabilities in AI? The AI in Education Impact Hub is an open, free of charge community that connects 13+ South Australian schools to share resources, practice, and outcomes.

Contribute to our research
We are a multidisciplinary team of scholars researching learning sciences, educational psychology, and human-AI interaction. If you’d like to contribute by collecting data in your school, or to learn how our research can improve your teaching practice, get in touch with us.

The State of AI Documentary
Recordings from these sessions and workshops will be collated into a longer documentary on AI research and innovation in South Australia, premiering in July 2027.
