An Introduction to computational thinking

Arduino Ninjas is a sequence of lessons focussed around computational thinking and aimed at Year 7 to 8 students. It is a self-paced, free course that makes use of the Arduino Uno microcontroller and a selection of sensors and effectors to explore the ideas of Decomposition, Generalisation, Abstraction, Pattern Recognition and Algorithms.

Participants will need an Arduino Uno and a number of different add-ons to complete this course. You may already have these or you may purchase a custom kit from UniSA Education Futures Academy.

Completion of each belt will grant you access to the next level course and prepare you for increased challenges.

For this intro level course you will need:

  • A computer (Windows, Mac or Linux) to run Arduino IDE
  • An Arduino Uno or Nano
  • A breadboard
  • An LED
  • A resistor (220 ohm)
  • Some interconnecting wires

This intro level course will take around 45 minutes to complete
