Last week, we had the privilege of interviewing Dr Ariella Helfgott, Director of Strategic Foresight at the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Government of South Australia

She has almost 20 years of Strategic Foresight experience, having been the Director of Scenarios with the World Energy Council, a member of the Shell Scenario Team, Director of Collaborative Futures, Senior Fellow at the Universities of Oxford, Utrecht, Wageningen and Adelaide, and Strategic Analyst with the Australian Department of Defence. She has worked across 26 countries in 8 global regions on multi-actor collaborative systemic change processes that enable the cocreation of better, more sustainable, equitable, healthy and prosperous futures.

In this interview, she discussed her role in the Foresight Unit, where she supports all government agencies in integrating foresight into strategy and policy development. Additionally, she shared her efforts in building strategic foresight capabilities and her own view on the future of education.

Currently working as the Senior Systems and Service Designer at Accenture Song‘s Sustainability Studio, Riley believes that the future’s design must break free from isolated thinking.
