Envisioning Alternative Futures

Welcome to our online learning activity where students are invited to reimagine the future of AI in education using the powerful technique of alternative futures. In this activity, we will explore four scenario archetypes: Growth, Constraint, Collapse, and Transformation, to envision different possibilities for the role of AI in education. By considering these archetypes, we can challenge conventional thinking and uncover new perspectives. You are invited to access our board to collaborate with any resources that might help us visualise any of those four possible futures.

• Growth: An extrapolation of trends continue into the future with minimal disruption
• Constraint: A core guiding value or purpose organizes society and governs behaviour
• Collapse: A rapid, catastrophic systems and infrastructure break down
• Transformation: Society or systems fundamentally change or reorganize around a new paradigm
