Individual investigation

Task:

  1. Students to choose a system from their local context to investigate
  2. Identify an issue within the system
  3. Evaluate what needs to happen to improve/impact the system

Reminder: this task should be student led – rather than provide a list of question/answer sheets, prompt the students to use systems thinking to create a potential solution for an issue within their local context.

Examples of prompts:

  • How might changing one component of the system as suggested affect the others?
  • What are the potential benefits and drawbacks of the proposed change?
  • How will the change affect the system as a whole?
  • How will the change improve the functioning of the system?
  • What potential or unintended consequences may occur as a result of this proposed change
  • How can we adapt the system if the change doesn’t have the desired effect?
